The Declaration of Independence of the United States is an agreement of 1776, by which the thirteen English Colonies in North America, then at war with Great Britain, declared their independence from this kingdom and explained their reasons for this action. The new nation that was born of this declaration was the United States of America. The content of the declaration was elaborated by Thomas Jefferson between June and July of 1776, during the War of the Independence of the United States and was ratified by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia, it constitutes the triumph of the settlers and the principle of self-government. The anniversary of this day is celebrated in the United States as Independence Day. The most famous and well-known of the copies of this declaration, is the manuscript version, prepared after July 19, 1776 and signed by the congressmen on August 2.
