Building shark awareness through bull shark diving

The bulls shark season will start soon: November to March many bull sharks will migrate to the reefs of Playa del Carmen, where it will take place and have the most incredible experience. But let us explain why we support this type of activity.

The shark is the apex species of the food chain, and the main predator of the ecosystem. However, 90% of the world’s shark population has been destroyed by human activities such as the practice of finning, by-catch, sea fishing and intensive fishing: 100,000,000 sharks are caught each year all over the world, most of the young offspring, neonates and pregnant females (FAO).

Mexico is the seventh shark producer worldwide, and refers to the overexploitation of several shark species.
Phantom Divers collaborated in the Saving Our Sharks association (https://www.savingoursharks.org), which aims to create a shark sanctuary in the state of Q. Roo.

Diving with bull shark in Playa del Carmen is a sustainable and non-extractive activity; In addition to generating more economic resources than fishing, awareness of the importance of shark conservation. For this reason, when doing this dive with Phantom Divers will participate in research, training, education and environmental interpretation, and a part of the proceeds will go to Save our sharks A.C.
